Listening to My Mom

Chih-Chen Chou    2012-08-10

I received a graded math test paper from my teacher, and I got 100% on the test, and I was the only one that got 100% on this test. I couldn’t imagine that I could get 100% on a math test before.

My parents used to worry about my grades a lot. Last semester, I got terrible scores on a few tests. My mom was very upset, but she told me that she felt upset was that my attitude toward learning and studies was wrong. She was not mad at me because of my poor grades. I have kept her words in my mind.

In Tai Ji Men, Shifu always teaches us to be responsible and correct our mistakes. Even though sometimes I do not give my best effort in my studies and do not admit my own mistakes, I still remember what Shifu and my mom have told me. Since knowing what is right is one thing and doing what is right is quite another, I eventually realize why Tai Ji Men is a really wonderful place. I have seen Tai Ji Men dizi do nice things for others, and that started from doing the right things for themselves. I often recall what my mother has told me, and I constantly remind myself, “Since I know what I should do, I need to do it.” For this reason, I started to improve little by little, and my attitude toward learning turn positive.

This semester, my grades are much better than those in last semester. Now, my parents don’t need to keep telling me to do my homework. I just do it myself. I also think that my handwriting looks prettier now. My teacher always gives me some compliments about my handwriting and writes the word “splendid!” on my homework sheets. I think this is the power of positive influence. In this good environment of Tai Ji Men, I have learned to put my mom’s words into action, and I have steadily improved.
