The wonderful time with children

"Time never waits for you. The opportunity will be gone once it passes." This is the most impressive talk that I’ve ever learned from my Shifu in Tai Ji Men!

I am a dentist. I used to spend whole day staying in the clinic; when I was home, it was past 10 p.m. Sometimes, I would like to take a look at the kids to get rid of tiredness; however, they were all asleep. I found that the time spent with my kids was little. One night, I went home to see my children, and my wife told me about the dialogue that she felt very funny! She said that our second child was very innocent saying that: "Mom! I’m going to bed now! And then my father would come back, right? Hearing this, I felt sad.

Thanks to Tai Ji Men, I practice qigong to maintain my body and mind in good shape. One night, I practiced for inner self-reflection by meditation and asked myself if I was really busy. The growth of my children was only once. Why couldn’t I spend a bit more time staying together with them? If the situation continue, I would surely not be able to keep a close relationship with my kids! How could I find the best way to strike a balance between work and family? When I was in calmness, I recalled Shifu’s words that "one who makes the best use of time finds the most time!" I suddenly found a good way from this inner conversation to help the children feel their father and I can also share wonderful time with them!

I started to have lunch or dinner with my family in break time. Even if it was 20 minutes or half an hour, I would still grasp the chance! It was great that the children gradually felt their father was there and that during the meal, I know more about their school lives. On holidays, I took my own responsibility to do some house chores, like fixing electric devices. When I tried my best to repair them, the children showed their admiration in their eyes, and saying, ""Wow! Dad! You are amazing!"" During their junior high school, the subject math became more and more difficult to them and I spared some time to teach them. When I solved the hard, complicated mathematical problems, they looked very surprised, and said again "" Dad! You are amazing.""

Time passes over the decades. Now one kid is freshman of high school and the other is sophomore of junior high school. My children and I are like friends and we share everything with each other. When they have something to chat about with me, they will wait until I am home and we can talk. One day, my birthday was coming and the kids produced an episode on the website about love story between my wife and me to express their gratitude. Indeed, I was deeply touched.

I’m really appreciated. During the growth of my children, I feel very fortunate to have the words of wisdom from Shifu to inspire me. The inspiration helps me find out ways to keep my children company and grasp their wonderful times during their growing-up years.
